It is very easy in Ubuntu. No need to install any software.
இந்த இடுகையைத் தமிழில் காண, இங்கே சொடுக்கவும்.
1) Goto System -> Prefernces -> Keyboard
2) Choose, 'Layout' and then, click 'Add'. Suddenly a window will open, Choose 'By Language'
3) Now choose 'YOUR' language, then click 'ADD'. Now in 'Layouts' click, 'Options'. Choose 'Key(s) to change Layout', it shows, what are all keys can be used as language toggle-rs.
e.g., I've chosen, 'Capslock' as my language toggle-r. If I press 'Capslock' keyboard changes to 'Tamil', if i press it again, it get back to 'English'.
4) While choosing your language, a keyboard layout appears as shown in the 1st figure. It tells you, which key is allocated for which letter.
5) Since the language is selected by the OS, all applications support this. I even named my folders in my mother tongue(Tamil). :-)
6) Choose 'Lohit _______' font in 'Word'. If you need more fonts, you can install it from, 'Ubuntu Software Center'.
Caution: When Ubuntu is asking password, be sure that the keyboard is in 'English mode' not in your mother tongue.
Don't worry keyboard language status will always be displayed in the task-bar.

Thanks for a very useful post.How to bring layout simultaneously while typing document to get used to it?
ReplyDeleteSee, I dono the actual way.. But i ll give u 2 shortcuts.
ReplyDelete1) Open the layout don't close it. :-)
2) Take a screenshot and save it as image. :-)
From my experience...
If you see the layout and started typing means, you'll always use the layout. try without seeing layout. I'm pretty sure, in one day u ll be able to type fastly.
Thanks
